Problem with IE 6.x & IE Settings -- Help !!!

I am using the latest version of IE 6.x on a W2K computer.

I have encountered the following problem when attempting to post a comment to TechBlog at http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/.

I tried posting a comment 4 times and each time, I got a internal server error, see attached. I noticed that even though I stated that I wanted my name and email address to be remembered, these items were not displayed. So I entered a different name and email address but I got the same error as before.

Then I decided to open a new IE window without closing the previous IE window. I went to TechBlog and was able to post a comment.

The next time that I tried to post a comment, I went to that page, I noticed that I was getting an error message relating to posting comments, see attached.

So, I email Dwight and he stated that I needed to "Turn off debugging in IE, and make sure you're not blocking any javascript."

So I went into IE under Internet Options and the Advanced tab and the settings that I have are as follows:

    checked -- Disable Script Debugging
Unchecked -- Display a notification about every script error

    Under Java (Sun)

    checked -- Use JRE 1.5.0_06 <applet>
    unchecked -- Java Console enabled
    unchecked -- Java logging enabled

UNDER THE Security Tab, Custom; there are these settings and I don't have a clue as to what any of them do or don't do.

    Active X Controls & Plug-Ins

Enabled -- Download signed Active X controls
Disabled -- Download unsigned Active X controls

Disabled -- Initialize and script Active X controls not marked as safe
Enabled -- Run Active X controls and plug-ins
Enabled -- Script Active X Controls marked as safe for scripting

    Microsoft VM

    Java Permissions -- high safety

    Disabled -- Active Scripting
Enabled -- Allow paste operations via script
Enabled -- Scripting of Java Applets

I have Visual Studio 2003 installed on this computer and I also have the Sun Java JRE 1.5.0_06 installed.

In spite of the fact that I have scripting errors disabled and no notifications disabled, I am still getting these scripting errors.

I would appreciate any information as to what all of these settings mean and which if any I should change.

Unfortunately, what I have I have discovered is that websites are not consistent in terms of requirements. Originally, I started out only allowing first-party cookies until I discovered that a favorite website required that I also allow 3rd party cookies.

    TIA,

    Linda
