DNS Server Unreachable??
Hello all,
I've just started to have this problem. It's never happened before. I am running Win XP Pro, Athlon 2000 CPU, WD HDD 40 Gb, and MSI Mobo. I also have a LinkSys 2.4 Ghz wireless router. I just started to get a message that my "DNS Server is unreachable or unavailable". To get myself up and running I have powered down the cable modem (AOL broadband), powered down the rounter, and shutdown my PC. I wait 15 secs or so, then power up the modem and wait for it to reset itself, then do the same for the router, then start my PC and it's fixed. But then I may lose it the next day.
This has never been a problem in the 3 years I've had this setup. The cable company says their end is fine. The only oddity that has happened lately is that there was a power failure right before this happened about 4 am. It was out and then back on in a second--just a flash. When I woke up again later, my router was displaying red lights. We've had these before with no consequenses.
I have run numerous virus scans, adware/malware scans, etc and my system is clean. Could it be a problem with Windows, or could my router sustained some damage in the powere outage??
Anyone have any ideas?? Please share your thoughts. Powering down is ok in that it gets me back up again, but its a getting a little old.
Thanks,
don
