    Installing Vista on Virtual PC

Windows Vista will install on Virtual PC 2004. However, it seems to be pretty much unuseable, as it just seems to lock the CPU useage at 100%. If anyone has found differently, or knows a solution to that I'd be very interested to hear it.

If anyone wants to try it for themselves, you need to boot up the virtual machine with a Win98 or ME Startup floppy first and Fdisk the virtual drive (there is no need to format it). Vista cannot be installed otherwise.

Allow a good couple of hours for the install. And after it's done, you'll only get 800 x 600 resoultion with 4-bit colour until the Virtual Machine Additions are installed (from the Action menu).

FWIW, just received my DVD package from Microsoft yesterday. Man oh man, when am I, (or any other working fool), going to find the time to install, setup and test all of this?:

Unfortunately, I still gotta work. A-n-d, I've got a wife as well as an awesome granddaughter that require a bit of attention.

May be able to start delving into some of this next weekend. Got Vista, Virtual PC 2004, and a new 3.6GHz/4GB RAM/2-250GB-SATAs/DVD-DL Systemax PC with 21" .26dp 16ms LCD and wall-rattling 5-speaker sound setup. But, everything's still in boxes.

    A n y w h o . . . quick Google found the following:From what I can gather it looks Vista will run in Virtual PC 2004, but, apparently it's s-l-o-w.

Nick, did you get the email from Brian about the pre-beta VirtualPC?

I just got the email today, I'll give it a go and see what happens. It doesn't matter if I can't get it to work in VPC, I have Vista already installed on another partition on my main rig.
