temp download folder
hi,
when i download a file, i understand that the packets are gradually saved into a temporary folder until the whole thing has downloaded and can be read as a single file by windows. 2 things.
1. what folder is this? i have tried to search but in vain.
2. if i stopped the download for whatever reason, would i then be able to continue at a later date using the data that has already been downloaded.
thank you

Hi,
The temp folder is in
C:\documents and settings\user name\local settings
You have to " show hidden files and folders to see it
Win Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View
Check "Show Hidden Files and Folders"

Not unless you have a download managing program and the website that you're downloading from supports resuming broken or interrupted downloads (many do these days).
eg- http://www.leechget.net/en/
http://www.nonags.com/nonags/dlm.html
Note that most if not all of these programs would set up their own download folder to store the files.

this is all very good madame, but this takes me to more folders and no sign of my downloads. maybe this is destined to remain out of my grasp

This is the default location... see pic attached..
Worth noting is that if you're downloading media from within your browser the files are stored in the Temporary Internet files folder/content ie5/xxxxxxxx (series of letters and numbers) see second pic attached...

themanwhowas--When you download a file, you should in almost all cases be asked to what location you want the file sent. You choose, and the File Download window will show this information throughout the download. Most downloads by default go to the folder you last downloaded to, so the odds are good that when you save (download) the next file you will see where downloads are going. Make a not of it. If you cannot find it that way, but can remember part or all of the name, run a Search on as much of the name as you can.
Temporary Internet Files are not downloaded files in the sense that you are actively downloading a file to that folder. Rather when you surf most of the graphics, etc. are automatically downloaded to TIF, so that if you revisit the same site later, the loading will be faster since much is already on your PC.
The above info assumes that you have indeed indicated you want to Save the downloaded file. If you chose to Run directly from the internet, you will not be able to find the "download" anywhere. It will be scattered all about as the file was both downloaded and then immediately Run.
