Nero format?
Nero format?
I just changed from Roxio to Nero 6 Ultra Edition.
I was able to backup my Quicken files to a CD-RW using Roxio Direct CD from Quicken.
There is supposed to be an option for "Format/Prepare Rewritable CD" in Nero StartSmart which does not show up as an option.
I assume I have to format a new CD-RW so it will except data.
Any ideas?

One way to format a CDRW in Nero is to open Nero Burning Rom and choose Recorder/Erase Writable disk from the menu. This will overwrite and destroy any data held on the rewritable CD.There is also an Erase disk option in Nero Express shown at the bottom by pressing the More button.

I found that I needed InCD from Nero which was on the Nero CD but did not intall with the suite.
I did install InCD but it doesn't lood in the System tray at startup so I still have the same problem.
I know w/ Roxio CD Direct had to be running in the System tray for it to work and I assume InCD is the same.
InCD is in my Startup folder.
I am getting a "Critical Stop" sound after everything loads in the Sys tray. maybe that's telling me InCD can't load for some reason.
I've also tried to click on the InCD.exe file but that will not load it either.

Packet writing is a very risky and unstable way to save data to cd.
Two packet writing programs such as InCD and DirectCd rarely play well together and may not be able to read each others disks.
Even if they can read each others disks, creating a disk using one program , saving some data to it and then using a second program to try to add more files to it may lead to serious data loss if its even possible at all.
At the very least make sure only one such program is installed/running at any one time.

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.

I have un-installed Roxio before I installed Nero.
I think I'll "restore" back before I installed Nero and install again.
I also downloaded the latest updates from Nero and installed them but that did not help either.
Back to square one.

Using ANY "packet-writing" solution like DirectCD or INCD is at best, a VERY risky proposition.
If you're not DEAD SET on this being your method, I would encourage you to rethink how this is happening. You can still use rewritable media anytime you wish, but actually "burning" the media will be so much more reliable and compatible in the long run.
Disclaimer: I've used both DirectCD and INCD and had a plethora of problems with each, and lost data with both.
As soon as the Mt. Ranier standard is readily available I'll try it again, but not until then...
Various Windows and Linux platforms...

PLEASE PEOPLE!!! Listen to what shiva_42 is saying!! I,also have gone down the packet writing path of destruction! I wish the optical drive Mfg's would get off their *sses and get Mt. Rainier on their drives. But until then, stay away from 'those' programs...
Stupid question? No such thing!
