Given up hope on this driver

    Hi there all

I have just about given up on this driver...

Work PC, eMachine 3260. I formatted the partition that held the drivers and now I just CANT get sound working. I have tried every driver under the sun. Either they dont work (still yellow splat in DM) or it blue screens the PC.

If anyone knows of one that definately works, chuck it this way!

    Everest says:

    Device Description Type
    Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [B-0] PCI

    .....

    Thanks

    HOng

    maybe this?
    http://www.opendrivers.com/categoryc...-download.html

On every computer (from dell to compaq/HP to emachines)with onboard sound/video, I just install the same generic driver for it and it works fine.

Well, good news and very bad news.

I went to the realtek website and found the correct driver. (good news)

Bad news is, it will BSOD me installing it in normal or safe mode.

The offending file seems to be portcls.sys. I looked this up on MSKB and there is a known issue with thisd file...however the patch they supply is for Pre SP2 only.

So either they missed this one out or it should have been fixed in SP2.

Nealy given up hope now, might just go buy a cheapy soundcard.

But that would be giving in??!!

I hate giving in, but yeah, you can get a soundcard for < $20 nowadays. It will be easier and cheaper to fix that way. If that computer was running linux, this wouldn't be a problem...

of course. Funny thing is, I have the Linux driver anyways

But I can only work on this issue when I am at work at considering the time I have spent trying to sort it out, I think its time to call it quits before the boss gets the hump
