    Question MTU changes?

I've established (I think ) at BroadbandReports.com that I should set my MTU to 1462+28=1490
I have no idea what it's set to at the moment, or how to change it..... hence the post -

Where/how do I set the MTU speed to 1490 (and does anybody think it'll make any difference - mind you that will depend on what it's set to just now?!)
(1472 got the error message 'packet needs to be defragmented')

    Thanks

You could use "drtcp" which broadbandreports offers here..

    http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp

or you could use "tcp optimizer" offered here..
    http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

I use the second one... it has more settings and a built in way of testing the optimum mtu value.

It may or may not make a huge difference but having the proper mtu will make *some* improvement.

Try it and see. Just remember what the current settings are so you can always reset if necessary.
