    Sending snippet of midi file

A friend, nearby, is trying to send her son a snippet of a music file (midi). Sending it as an attachment is about 10.5MB.

She using a dial-up modem and keeps getting a *wait* message that the server has not completed, and to 'wait' or 'stop'. Is there a way to compress this file to an acceptable size for sending.

I haven't researched attaching photos or music to e-mail, therefore can't give her an answer. So, I'm asking, anyone, if it's possible to compress this file.

Have you tried zipping it, aceing it, or raring it ?

You could also upload the file to a file sharing / storage site and send the login / password to allow the other person to download it themselves.

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.

May also try using www.yousendit.com this way she'd be able to download it without filling her email space. 10.5 MB is pretty big for a midi file is it not.

www.rapidshare.de is another free file sharing site for up to 30meg files.

you could also use HJsplit http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/ to split it up into smaller bits and create a little .bat file for the recipient to patch it back together.

And yes, 10megs is enormous for a midi file.

Thank you, GW, Fuelman and fink, I've copied your suggestions. Will check out the links later and see if it's any help to her.

Don't know about midi files, but 10megs is a fair size, especially when using a dial-up modem. Thanks again!
