Fired for drinking the wrong beer?

That is a crazy one, but then again, he should have thought that it could be some conflict with the choice he made. Why didn't he just put the beer down for the photo anyway? I would have.
That's just like being a Cadillac salesman and driving a Lincoln to the job and parking it in front of the Cadillac dealership each day, not right, but some unwritten things you just don't want to do outright. Like keep it, (your personal prefs.), on the backburner, out of sight, and then make your personal choice a private matter not on the record like this guy did.

Of all the people and all the pics, that one ended up in the paper. 
I used to make a couple business trips to Milwaukee a year and can say that's serious Miller country out there!

Do you not have unfair dismissal laws in the US ? (ie in AUS you need to have 3 verbal and 3 written warnings - i think - before you can be sacked from a job).
Maybe it was because of his bad beret and from the poor quility photo what appears to be chains hanging around his neck making him look some bad a$$ rapper or drug dealer.
Also on that page was a link to this article about the NHL season being canned http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/4195431/detail.html because of salary agreements ?
I mean don't NHL players get paid a ton of money ?
I guess canning the season will hit them in the hip pocket.

Not really -- most states up there allow for employment "at-will", which means that with a few very specific exceptions (age/gender/race/etc discrimination, whistleblower protection etc) an employee can be terminated at any time for any reason.

There are some trades that have very strong 'unions' up here. Such as the 'teamsters' union. Employers do 'not' have an easy time firing people who belong to organizations such as these. It takes much more than just a whim to fire these members...

The problem as I see it is: Miller and Bud are NOT beer, good anyway.
Just rap your hands around a YUENGLING LARGER and get off that baby food.
Upset because he had a different beer and fired him? I think there has to be a lot more to this than that?

I think his problem was not in drinking the Bud, but for allowing his picture to be published in the paper with it. (He does have to sign a permission for them to use the photo.)
Some years ago the HOA where I live employed a groundskeeper who was a baseball fan. He phoned in sick on Padres opening day, and the board president was watching the game to see this idiot being interviewed on tv at the game. He thought getting his mug on tv was a big kick, until he got fired for falsely phoning in sick!

Then how do paparazzi get their celebrity photos published? If it was an ad for Bud or something then I could see your point, but this was just a photo of random people at a party.

Good question, actually. Maybe there is some sort of implied consent just by being who they are. But I have been with a person who was snapped by a journalist at a ball game and was asked to sign a release so that the paper could use the photo. Maube it was a policy of just that one publication.
Be that as it may, the guy surely knew that his picture was being taken, and by whom. I find it hard to believe he could not have managed to prevent the use of the picture. Look at his expression: he was delighted to have a news photog shooting him.
