    Won't boot from CDROM

Have an ABIT AB-BH6 1.1 which refuses to boot from CDROM. I have done the following:

    • flashed to BIOS level SP
    • made the CDROM first in boot order
      cleared CMOS, load defaults
      Tried 3 different CDROM drives
Tried a Windows XP Professional CD (intended install is Windows 2000 Professional)
      Tried replacing IDE ribbon cables

    any ideas?

for more information on this mainboard visit:

Try booting up with a Win98 Startup floppy with CDROM support, and then see if you can read files on a CD from DOS. If you can then it shows it's a Windows problem, otherwise it will be hardware.

A method i sometimes use when having this problem is to disable all other drives from the pc's boot sequence, thus forcing the machine to boot from cd, otherwise sounds like a prob with your mobo/bios.
