    Ubcd 30

I downloaded this program (133MB) and have no clue as to how to use it. It is a CD Boot program with several added utilities. It is a zipped file (ubcd30-full.exe) and unzips to ubcd30-full.iso. Their web site is (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/) not much help.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The iso is a CD image. You need to burn it directly to a CD as such and not like a typical windows file. Most recent CD burn programs will burn those types of images.. depending on which burner you use have a look in the help guide.

When it's burned you have to reboot the computer with the CD in the tray but first you have to set the boot sequence in your bios to boot from the CD drive first. So reboot the PC and when you see the instruction to press a key (often F2 or del) to enter setup do it and that's the bios. You'll see on the first or second page, depending on which bios you have, the boot sequence... set it to boot from the CD first and then save the settings and exit.

Once you've got that done let it boot completely with the CD in the drive and you'll be given some instructions and/or a list of programs you can use.

When you're done you'll need to reset the boot sequence to what it is now.. usually floppy>Cdrive (hard drive)> cdrom.

Thanks for your reply, but I’ve tried all that and (2) computers wouldn’t boot from the ISO CD.

wouldn’t boot from the ISO CD.

What happens then? Error messages? black screen with prompt?

Have you, out of curiosity, tried booting with a boot floppy with CDrom drivers and then running the boot CD from there? You can d/l a win98SE boot floppy or similar and try it out.

When you burned the image to a cd , how did you burn it ?

You don't just burn an iso as a data file , you burn as an image file .

In other words, when you open up the cd in windows , do you see a big file on the disk called ubcd30-full.iso ? If so you have burned the cd incorrectly.

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.
