    USB Update won't run

I extracted the usbsupp.exe file from a CAB file on the hard disk called IENT_S1.CAB.
I used Vernon's "FOR IN DO" statement in the following link to perform the extraction.

    http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...light=SOOOOOOO

I also extracted the usbupdt.exe file.

When I try to run the program from an MS-DOS command prompt (either after starting Windows 95 or before) I get the following message.

"Program too big to fit in memory."

    What am I doing wrong?
I have the Year 2000 Update for Windows 95 version of command.com installed which is slightly larger than the original version of command.com. Could this be the problem?

I would install USB support by doing the following (while in win95):

    1) Download the following 2 files (downloading them makes sure you have the most up to date ones):
    USBSUPP.zip
    USBUPD2.zip

    2) Unzip both files to a temporary directory.

    3) Run USBSUPP.EXE form where you unzipped usbsupp.zip in step1.

    4) Shutdown and restart. Note: make sure USB is enabled in the bios before proceeding, but do not have any usb devices connected.

    5) When win starts the hardware wizard will start finding devices and installing drivers. If need be, when prompted for the location of drivers point it at the Windows\System directory.

    6) When you get to the desktop run USBUPD2.EXE from where you unzipped it in step 1.

    7) Shutdown and restart again.

    8) At this point make sure you install any motherboard chipset drivers needed so that the usb support incorporated in to them is in place.

NOTE: if prior to starting this there are any usb related entries in device manager (from prior failed usb installs) then boot up in safe mode and delete any and all entires related to usb from device manager.

Thanks, but I just figured it out on my own before I checked for replies at VDR.

Didn't need to download or use unzip.
The needed file was in a cab on my hard drive.
    Here was the problem:
"Program too big to fit in memory" After using the extract tool.
Cause: the executable file called usbsupp.exe was actually a 1,400,000 byte cab file!

The source cab file was renamed after being written to the destination to the executable file I was looking for!

To reproduce the "Program too big to fit in memory" behavior, rename a cab file to have the .exe file extension.
Try to execute the .exe file at an MS-DOS command prompt by typing its name.

Basicallly, I wasn't using the extract command correctly.
The real file usbsupp.exe is only about 77K or so.
