Hi there.
The "Most Recently Used" list (MRU) settings vary between applications.
In Microsoft Word, you would look in Tools>Options>General - Recently used file list = x Entries
Change this to 0 to ensure opened files are not visible in the File menu.
This is also stored in the Windows Registry but it's far easier to let the application control it.

There is always MRU-Blaster.
Current PC
Zoostorm
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, (XP Mode virtual pc enabled)
WEI 7.4, 7.6, 7.9, 7.9, 5.9
Intel Core i5-2310, 8GB Ram
Geforce GTX 660 OC
Samsung Syncmaster SA300 23.6" monitor
Folding@home
User Name Sintares

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.

The latest version of Ad-Aware also picks up MRU file lists and gives you the oportunity to delete them.
See the link in General Winters signature.

MRU = Most Recently Used - see Smurfy's post again.
I spoke of Ad-Aware which is a program to find Adware plus more.
