I installed Acronis True Image 8.0 last night. I imaged my entire C drive (single partition) to the root of my D drive.
I am confused by the directions provided in the users manual when it comes to restoring the image. Under "Selecting Partition Type" three choices are presented, Active, Primary and Logical. The image I wish to restore is my entire C drive. Which option do I choose? Will the restored automatically be renamed as C?
This process appears to be more complicated then I had envisioned.
Dell 8200
Win XP Home SP2
Both Drives IDE & NTFS With Room To Spare
This gets more confusing. The User Manual for version 8.0 reads in part "But, if you are to restore a system partition, you should select the PRIMARY type for it. Finally, if you want to load an operating system from it, select ACTIVE as well."
Well, don't all system drives contain an operating system? How would it be possible to restore an image without also restoring the OS?
Can both buttons be selected simultaneously?
Sorry for the dumb questions, but I thought someone who has already done it might be able to tell me how they did it.
You would restore to your primary drive which is your active drive. And when you restore it the complete image is placed back on the HDD Primary (active) partition. You just have to pick which one that is on your PC. Usually "C Drive". Said a different way does that help any?
Thanks everyone for your help. The directions say that the original partition is selected by default. HA! Where have I heard that before. I'll just wait and see when the time comes.
The answer just arrived in a surprise e-mail response from Acronis tech support. If the drive to which the image is being restored is a boot drive, the correct selection is ACTIVE.
I thought I would post the answer in case other users might also be pondering the same question.
