Backing up email

Is it possible to backup my current email files so that when I retrieve my ghost image they will be current...

Outlook Express...I enjoy the Ghost backup feature but every time I have had to use it I have lost important email...

bojovan, move your email store folder to another partition. Then it won't be affected by the ghost restore.

I have followed the step by step directions on the recommended site and I can not get it to work for me... Does it make a difference now with SP2 installed... Running outlook express with win xp pro

im not sure if its different with SP2 because i dont use outlook express, but it shouldnt.

Yes. I follow the step by step directions and it just won't work for me. When I pick a folder to backup mail, files are transferd as soon as I do and that is as far as I get. What are these files that are copied

Do you mean how the Ghost image will reflect emails since you ran Ghost? I doubt that will happen.
If you just mean how to backup OE files prior to using Ghost, I recently successfully transferred the email files from one PC to another using the suggested procedure

However, I am told that OEBackup is easier

bojovan, to move your OE store folder first you have to create a folder in the location that you want. For instance on your D: partition. Name it whatever you want. (don't copy the .dbx files to the new folder at this point or you'll end up with doubles of everything when you're done)

Then in OE go to "tools>options>maintenance>store folder". In there it'll show you where your current store folder is and give you the chance to change it to your new folder.

Then a restart of OE will move the files.

Whenever I do this I first make a copy of the original store folder in case anything goes wrong.

Then after you've moved the store folder, reghost your OS partition to include the new settings.

Edit: Now when you restore the ghost image your emails will stay current. You can also use this method to use the same store folder with a multiboot setup.

I agree with DVOM I use this method and it works perfectly, I also have my 'Favorites' folder on 'D' partition.
I use 'Acronis True Image' and create a new image every week because I am always tweaking.
This method of having critical folders on seperate partitions is important if you continuously 'image' and update.

Hi:

I choose in the email options to keep a copy on server 10 days. If I have to restore a drive, I can send/receive and get my latest emails again.

This can be done in conjunction with above ideas.
