OT 24th Septemer - Game Soundtracks

Sometimes the music from games gets overlooked I think.

Are there any memorable ones that stick in your mind ?

I like Baldurs Gate The Original Saga Official Soundtrack

Also Age Of Empires Soundtrack that came with Age Of Empires: Collectors Edition which I notice on the box says Australian Edition - does anyone know if it was released elsewhere ?

    Also Little Big Adventure soundtrack.

Slient Hill from PS1 - I see on ebay there are many for sale in fact SH 1, 2 & 3

    Metal Gear Solid.

Zork Nemesis although I'm not sure if there was a soundtrack, but the in game music is hauntingly beautiful at times.

    Zork Grand Inquisitor.

Then there's C64 music for real retro memories but maybe that's another OT altogether.

P.S. mods please feel free to correct the spelling in my Thread heading

at it a bit early this week Nix.....but as I am in a cheerfully good mood this morning I will let this stay open.....cant say the other mods will do the same....but....its open for now....

I am not much of a gamer.....I play Tiger Woods golf and Nascar racing games....right now playing Nascar Revolution.....other than that...I have only played....a few others.....so I cannot comment on sound tracks for them.....

Thanks I know it's about 12 hours early or so but it's late on Friday night here down under and I was listening to Baldur's Gate soundtrack and suddenly thought of the OT.

    Thanks for leaving it open.

I don't do any gaming, but it seems to me that the pinnacle of computer sounds was reached in 1982 with the SID chip on the C64 And you could program the sounds yourself, try doing that in Visual Studio

Im not a hardcore gamer but when i do play the music makes it that more interesting.

At the moment im playing on Midnight Club II and the music in that is very catchy.

The GTA series has alway had a great sound track to it.

The first thing that came to mind:

"Don't bring me down" (ELO) pretty loud, but great background sound when playing "Burger" on the C64 !

I used to play Mafia in freestyle mode just to drive around in cool cars, listening to the music.

Well, Nix posted at 1:07am MY time so he's OK by me

The test of a good game music soundtrack = the one I don't turn off immediately after trying it out.
    My list...
    1
    2
    3
    4
    End of List

Actually some driving games had OK techno soundtracks but even those I normally killed off and played my own CDs instead.

    Thanks smurfy.

Looks like game music wasn't a huge hit as an OT though.

    Oh well.

Of course having said all that I actually found the lack of music when playing the Tomb Raider series of games very annoying - felt that it should have had some back ground music.

Ah yes with Martin Galway being one of the best composers IMO - used to enjoy listening to those tunes whilst the game loaded from tape

Back when I used to play those C64 games, I was most impressed by this one game, which actually had music while loading from a diskette. I forgot the name. It was the only game I had that did that. And I had hundreds. I wonder what steps were taken back then to stop illegal copying of games (sorry, off topic).
