unlock keyboard

Dear folks,
I was mucking about to reinstall a CD burner, computer wouldn't even turn on, realized I had inadvertently dislodged a couple of connectors from the HD to the motherboard. I plugged them back in as best I could, unplugged the new burner connections, and the comp booted, but the bootup dialogue said "unlock keyboard" "press F1 to continue". I tried ctl F9, (and ctl everything for good measure) tried another keyboard, checked the keyboard connection, rebooted, no effect, same dialogue.

It's probably something really simple.....

Either you have a key lock on your case, or your motherboard supports the key lock feature.

This used to be very common on cases, you could lock out your keyboard, that way your keyboard was rendered useless until unlocked.

I would guess that you have dislodged or shorted out the pins.

Is there a spot on the case that a round key fits into?

Do you know what motherboard or computer you have?

Thank you for responding. I used to have a computer with a lock on the case - still have the key - unfortunately this one has no keyhole that I can see. All I know is that it's an Intel Celeron.

Thanks so much for those links! Bookmarked. I went through some of the steps for "general problems related to loose connections". Unfortunately, the next time I booted the comp all I got was a blank screen. Fortunately it is not my main computer and has no data on it. I think I'll have to bring it in to someone who is more knowledgeable about hardware; when I got to the part that talked about "recovering the BIOS using the Flash boot block recovery code (activated by setting the Flash recovery jumper on the motherboard)", I felt a loose connection of my own coming on. Thanks again for your help.

Dear Britt and Troyz,
I thought I would let you know; I took the 'puter up to a local shop and the fellow suggested I remove and replace the cards, remove all the connections except the power supply to the mother Board, and try again. It worked. While I was pulling out plugs I noticed that the words "key lock" were written in very tiny print above where the connections were, but it didn't indicate to which connection it related. Anyhow, I plugged all the connections back in to the motherboard (I confess, rather at random) and it's up and running. Thanks again for your help.
