Floppy disk drive

I replaced my A:\ drive several months ago and now the computer is unable to access information from any floppy disk giving a message about disk not formatted or invalid system disk or cannot read from A:\. I am also getting messages about himem.sys being missing. Are these related? I certainly would have thought that the new drive would have lasted more than a few months. I also recently had to clean a virus (Magistr32) from this computer by installing McAfee VirusScan. Additionally, windows is using almost all of the memory (63.something of 64). Would these problems cause the A;\ drive not to work? Also the computer hangs up on shutdown. Any suggestions?

I don't think you got all of the virus.

McAfee probably did not get rid of it.

The virus is called W32/Magistr@MM. It appeared that I had gotten all of it out. I cannot locate any files or run lines that indicate the presence of a virus. None of the .exe files are oversized either. Perhaps the McAfee VirusScan and the McAfee Nuts and Bolts that I have installed are using too much memory. Also, I recently downloaded a recommended Service Pack which may have added to my problems. I had planned to install Win 98 on this computer. Any suggestions about that and will that make any difference in memory use?
