Microsoft Windows Security Update CD
I just received my CD ROM from Microsoft today. But, I am not exactly 100% sure of what I have. The only info I can find anywhere is that it contains all critical updates "through October 2003". Does this mean that SP1 is included for the XP operating system? If I reformat, do I need to install SP1 and then install whatever is on this disk or just install contents of CD if SP1 is included?
Thanks

if SP1 is included in the Cd it could be intimidating to try and find it throughout the CD, install windows from the CD, once you have an internet connection, download SP2 and try to install that, it will alert u if you have not got SP1 installed and prompt you to install SP1 first before continuing..

Hi rwinegar
Open the Security Update CD and in the first Window you will see two "Steps" to download.
The first step is "Windows Security Advisor"
Use the Windows Security Advisor (WSA) to improve your computer’s firewall settings and also to turn on Automatic Updates. (This feature automatically downloads Microsoft security updates through the Web. All you have to do is install them.)
You will only want this if you use the XP Firewall and want "Automatic Updates" to run on your computer. You might not want any of this if you have another firewall and have "Automatic Updates" turned off.
The second step is Install Updates,
The Security Update CD has Windows XP Service Pack 1, Update Rollup for Microsoft Windows XP (up to October last year), DirectX 9, and Windows Media Player 9.
If you have just done a format and reinstallation of XP you will have to check your XP installation disc to see if SP1 is on it. If it is on the XP disc it will have been installed when you used the XP CD to reinstall XP, so you will not need it again.
You will definately need the Updates Rollup, but before you use this CD check your system to see which version of DirectX and Windows Media Player you have.
To check which version of DirectX you have
Start / Run and in the box type dxdiag then OK
If you have older versions you can install the updated ones from the CD.
So you really have just to pick out what you need.
