USB port question---
Howdy,
I ordered a USB 2x8 pin port a couple of years ago by mistake and I still have it.
Now I want to install a USB port on a motherboard that requires a 2x5 pin or a 2x1x5 pin.
Is there any chance that the 2x8 will work? Before I start ripping and tearing, thought I'd ask you guys.
Thank you.

Do you mean something like this:

If so you'll need to cut the header plug and connect the wires individually, if you can get hold of some individual header plugs.
Red = +5v
Green = +Data
White = -Data
Black = Ground

Too many pin plugs, thought it might work from one end or the other?

OK, on the 5-pin plugs, you'll find that either only 4 wires are connected, or that 2 of the pins are commoned up to the Black ground wire. So if you get hold of a couple of 5-pin plugs, you can connect them according to your mobo pinouts. But you do have enough wires on your 8-pin to make it work.
Nick.
