Looking to slim down unnecessary processes

I just installed an HP PhotoSmart printer, which is USB. It installed a bunch of programs that run at startup. I'd like to strip it down to barebones, just the printer's USB driver. Which of these programs is the actual USB driver and which can be eliminated from my machine's startup? TIA.

Have you looked in 'services'? 3rd party apps(such as ATI)can stick a' bunch of unneeded stuff there that can be disabled. Might want to take a look at Black Vipers site. He has a great tutorial(that can be dn/loaded) about what services can be disabled or manualized(sheesh,,is that a word?)

    Hi f117nighthawk

I think you are referring to the startup items installed by the printer. The site below has a fairly comprehensive list of startup items, although I am not sure if your particular ones will be listed. If they are listed it will tell you exactly what they do. It is worth looking for them on this site.

1.Start/Run/ msconfig then go to link below.

    http://www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.php

Read the Key at foot of page, then click on “Here” at top. Use the Search box to check all you entries. Follow his advice carefully.

This site http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php is very useful too and will help identify those unknown startup items with great detail.
