prob with activeX
I had a minor prob with inability to get a link to work from a website by using the icon to send mail. Had missing dll, fixed that - Then, ran PCDoctor 'free' analysis which found 5 problems - of which 4 were considered high in nature. They were: invalid activeX.com file in Registry - 2 probs; invalid activeX com files, subsect 2 probs invalid microsoft shared file 1 prob - registry refers to1 or more invalid files. I tried going to tools - internet options - security - custom settings- security - and disabling activeX, but no help - so, now I have several questions - how and/or should I go into regedit and delete certain lines, or use ; in front of specific lines or should I try to download active X again? While I have done some of this before - I know this can be hazardous to system if a mistake is made. PCdoctor wants money, so, I am trying to get advice here first.
Win ME
IE6,SP1
Any help appreciated. Norm69

Try out www.pcpitstop.com & see what that has to say.
Active x is automatically downloaded from some sites. Are you saying that you cannot disable it?

activeX
Crunchie, it has taken awhile for me to go to links, and read up on PCdoctor and also read up on active X. Some of what I have read about active X indicates that it can have negative results on your system because it will allow actions to be taken against your hard drive without your knowledge that can have bad results. Now, I have a question - if I go into Internet Options - Security - custom settings - and go down the list and check the disable active X - - - will it have any negative affect? One article suggested that I download and install JAVA Virtual Machine as a better alternative because it is safer and more up to date than Microsoft's aging activeX. All that said, I will appreciate any comments on this. Thanks, Norm
