Links above will not work
Whenever I see an article in a forum that I want to link to someone via use of the second line from top above - I click on send link and nothing happens. I read about another link not working in this forum in OE, but this seems to be different. However, I tried using that remedy per #177054, but did not get the response cited in that remedy as that said to go to Internet options and click on programs and make sure the block 'check to see if internet explorer is default browser, etc., and then click apply - and ok'. Problem is the 'apply' is grayed out I'm using:
winME - IE6 - OE - probably leaving out other significant info -
Any help is appreciated.

Norm69--Concerning the greyed out browser option.
1) Have you run a spyware detector program like
AdAware
http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/
or SpybotS&D
http://security.kolla.de/ ?
Get the latest updated reference files before scanning.
2)Try the IE Repair Tool.
Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information|Tools|Internet Explorer Repair Tool|Wait|Reboot.
Alternative way to run it
http://help.att.net/docs/howto/other...&platform=none
Whenever I see an article in a forum that I want to link to someone via use of the second line from top above
I must confess I cannot understand what line it is to which you refer.

Jim, Thanx for response. First, re: second line from top - actually, it is the 3rd line from the top - anyway my format has a line that reads from left to right: back - arrow - fwd arrow - x - and various icons such as for Search - favorites - media - history - then mail - print - edit with notepad - create mobile favorite. So, when I have clicked on the mail icon there and then 'send link' the system does nothing.
I did try to correct prob by performing the second suggested task - cont panel - add/remove, etc., but ran into a problem as I received a message "missing CSSEQCHK.DLL." So, now, do I have to reinstall IE6 - and should I take other housekeeping steps first? Again, appreciate the help. Norm69

Norm69--That CSSEQCHK.DLL file is part of IE6. Have you run a Find for it to confirm it is really not on your PC? If it is still there, maybe you can re-register it.
I regret that I cannot tell you how to restore it without reinstalling IE6. Maybe someone else can. And while you are at it go for IE6SP1.
There are sites that offer replacement .dll files
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...ent&q=CSSeqChk
but sometimes they give you the wrong version.
P.S. You could still try the first method to Repair IE.

Link prob
Jim, I downloaded the ad-aware program and ran it. What I noticed is a lot of hotmail parts listed. I did not delete them, cause I still want to use Hotmail. Just may be Hotmail is interfering with some links. Re-downloaded IE6,sp1 and installed it. Oddly, the links work fine when they are in e-mails - prob seems to be isolated to trying to use links from this forum, but I can excerpt what I need and copy it and then send it - that would solve the situation. As you know, however, we always want to get all of these little quirks -- unquirked! Once again, thanks for your help. Norm69

Norm69--Sorry I could not be of more help. Maybe someone else will still chime in.
Did you ever get the greyed out "Apply" to come back to life? I guess you know the Apply will be greyed out unless you change a setting in the window--like check or uncheck the box you mention.

The Microsoft Article you referred to (#177054) only fixes things when links in an email message received in Outlook Express don't work. I know...I've used the fixes in that article on several computers.
Since it's the email button in Internet Explorer that doesn't work, the first thing to check is in Internet Explorer's Tools>Options>Programs tab. In the field for Email, if Outlook Express isn't showing, click on the drop-down arrow and click on Outlook Express, then click OK. Try the email button again. If it still doesn't work, you might have to close all IE Windows and then open one back up to rattle IE's cage and make it recognized the change.

Link prob continued
Jim, I went back over the previous suggestions and seem to be in a cycle - even after re-downloading and installing IE6, sp1 - I try to use the IE repair tool, but continue to get an error msg regarding the missing CSSEQCHK.dll file. Actually, I also downloaded that file separately and it is on my desktop. This is an extra item of interference not needed, but not of major significance either as everything seems to be working ok.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
MIZ, I did go through the steps in the suggestion you provided, and found Outlook Express is already the designated program. Later I'll try a reinstall and exit and restart and see if that works.
Lastly, I appreciate the help from you both. Will keep working at it - may be a stroke of luck will strike me. Norm69

See if anything in this MS KB article applies.
Scroll down through all the technobabble to the "Cause" subheading.
Are you on AOL? If not, check in Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs to see if AOL ever got installed. I've found it installed on a number of machines in my town where AOL isn't available (I found out one was because of a house guest who believed it was impossible to get online without AOL). If it's in then Add/Remove list, uninstall it.

Followup and answer to prob
Finally, got the prob solved. I had followed some of the advice, but began to get an error msg about additional problem - that urlmon.dll causing problems, so, once again I downloaded IE6,sp1 - this time from the MSN website - and received a notation that a complete download of all files was necessary. After I did that, I was able to run the IE repair tool and that fixed the link prob and the 2 missing dll's problem, too. This reply is just to let everyone know problem was solved and one of the suggestions - from Jim concerning use of the IE repair tool worked. Thanks to all for suggestions. Norm69

Norm69--Thanks for posting back. One of the things the IE Repair Tool does is reregister urlmon.dll.
Always good to hear that a suggestion helped.
