Xp slows download after installing wmconnect

    Hi all,
I recently started using Wal-mart's isp wmconnect. It comes with it's own software for it's web browser. I first installed it on my pc with Windows Me. Everything went fine and still is running good. I than installed it on my pc running Windows Xp. Well it did install fine and works but it slowed down my start up. When I log in under my user acount for windows it will take about a minute and a half before everything loads to the task bar. It used to take about 5 to 10 secounds. After it loads everything runs as fast as it always did. I uninstalled Msn messenger, to see if it still did it with less things loading at start. And it did. I only have wmconnect, msn messenger and AVG loading at start. It more annoying than a problem. But i would like to get it fixed some how. I'm trying to find what the recent version for wmconnect software. I have 6.0 and I know I can download the software off of Wal-mart's website. But I don't want to if that is not the problem or if it the same version. I'm going to call Technical support to see if they can help. I bet that should be real fun

Hi jayclark. I've moved your thread to xp forum after two days you've gotten no response in the "Internet Software" forum.

in msconfig, startup, uncheck the wmconnect also.
it does not need to run at startup

Well I got the problem fixed by not having it load at start up at all. It reminds me of a problem I had when I first install windows xp and anything that had to do with the internet such as web browser, internet options, and isp dail up icon would take for ever to load but eventually it went away. I still never figured out what caused it. I wish there was a way to dail up to wal-marts server through just a dail up icon or by just double clicking explorer with out having to use their web browser. Thanks for the help.

I'm not familiar with WalMart's branded browser but have you tried just setting up a new connection using the WalMart account settings (phone number, username and password) and then using it to try to connect?

If that connects okay, open Internet Explorer and try to access some sites. If that works, go to Internet Explorer's Tools>Internet Options>Connections tab, mark the connection you made as the default, check "Always dial my default connection" and IE should connect when you open it...bypassing WalMart's browser.

If it doesn't work, all you've lost is a little time.

Yes I did. That was the first thing I tried to do when I found out that it used its on web browser. I used my user name and password I use to log on to wal-marts web browser. I got the error user name and password wrong. If it is the same password I use to log on to their web browser wouldn't that be my user name and password to their isp? Or does the web browser send its own user name and password? I know the browser is basicly a slimed down version of aol just with wal-mart's colors and a different setup. I never used an isp like this before. I have always use an isp that let me make up a password and user name then put it in the dail-up window. I hate the fact i have to use their browser but I connect at 55 bps thats VERY good for dail-up my old dail-up was 45 bps which is still good for dail up. I would just use my old but their no longer in service and this is the only other one around that is worth the money.

jayclark, your user name and password would be exclusive to your internet connection and probably not the same as just browsing their website. You should call them if you haven't yet, and ask what user name (didn't they send you an email?) is.

What I meant was a password for their web browser not for their web site. Basicly as same as Msn Explorer. Or loging into windows. Their browser has user names so different people in the house hold can have different settings. I didn't think that would be the password and user name to log on to their isp. But it was worth a try. I have not received anything from them. Except for a customer rating poll. I tried calling tech support to asked them how to use explorer with their isp but after being on hold for about 45 min. I just emailed their tech support and asked them if it could be done.

I'm surprised they didn't email you with your user name and password, even my web based isp did that. Oh, well.....maybe the will reply via email. I hope you get a reply.

I finally talked to wmconnect tech support. They told me that as of now no other browser could be use as default but theirs. They said this was because this was a premere (how ever you spell it ) I wonder if this means eventually they will let their user use any browser they won't to?
