Problems with Shareaza
I've had Kazaa Lite for a few years and had little or no problems with it.
I've now downloaded Shareaza and have these problems;-
1. Terribly slow download speeds from Shareaza (if downloading at all), typical max is 60 kbs.
2. Very slow download speeds when Shareaza running (even when its not downloading) - a speed test showed 240 kbs when Shareaza running and 450 kbs when closed. I have a DSL 512 connection.
I'm running Windows XP and the free Zone Alarm firewall. Could my problems have something to do with Zone Alarm? Any other ideas/suggestions?
TIA
Alex

If you're downloading from another person's personal computer, maybe their Internet connection is not as fast as yours. You can't download a file faster than their computer can send it.
Maybe a lot of different folks are constantly downloading files from your computer. If so, there's only so much room for data transfer in your pipe to the Internet. Have you tried disabling file sharing? http://security.uchicago.edu/peer-to...za/index.shtml

You can get all the info you need on tweaking Shareaza here;
http://forums.shareaza.com/
Learn how to add sources and limit uploads and you are set.
I run between100-500kbs most of the time, especially overnight.
Enable the Shareaza ports in Zonealarm. It's on the Forum

Thanks guys
I didn't want to disable file sharing as its only fair that I make my files available to others as I'm copying of others too. I have restricted the upload bandwidth and that seems to have helped speed up my "normal" internet speed whilst Shareaza is running.
I've spent some time reading the Shareaza forums and tweaked a little. Its not really helped as all my partial/queued downloads are from ed2k, which seems to be notoriously slow from the comments in the forums. I'll keep on trying.
Thanks again.
