Anyone have any idea how to remove or at least empty the index.dat file in xp? Spider.exe doesn't seem to clear it as it did under win 98.

System Security Suite v1.03.1(3S) is the program to remove internet tracks and junk files from your computer. It allows you to delete Cookies, clear Internet Explorer Cache, delete index.dat Files, clear Typed URLs, Windows Temp Folder and much more. You can also specify custom folder locations with file masks, which will be cleaned in addition to the selected items. In addition, the program allows you to view and optionally remove programs that launch automatically at Windows startup.

@WinSpy v2.01 You can find out what the others have done on your computer, including what web sites they have been, what text, images, movies they have seen. and also what files they opened/saved, what kind of search they have done and what they ran at the start menu. Double click the displayed item will directly open or link to the file or the URLs stored on your computer.

Version 2.01 adds an Index.dat Viewer, which can view the URLs in index.dat file.

Spider116 works fine on my XP-home. Just need to go into the option menu first and tell it to 'search complete hard drive'<accept>. It still leaves the default urls alone, but wipes the rest...

Fuelm@n, did you try that System Security Suite? The reason I am asking is because of this quoted paragraph.

Instead you have got a full-featured Startup Manager. Now you can "lock" (deactivate) a suspicious program, check the behaviour of your computer whitout it and (possibly) "unlock" (activate) it again. I think that it's more convenient than just deletion, eh ?

I guess the wording they used is a little confusing. Those options are under the "AutoRun Tasks" tab which shows the items of programs that startup with the PC, much like MSCONFIG. "Lock" is to disable an item from starting up the next time the system does. "Unlock" is to re-enable the item again after you've disabled it. Or you could just check the item listed and select "Delete Checked". hth

Hey Ridgerunr, does this mean I can use Spider116 with XP Pro. Like you I used to used it a lot with Win98SE. Never thought it would be happy coping with NTFS format.

As regards the other suggestions System Security Suite v1.03.1(3S) and @WinSpy v2.01 . I've never come across these before. Before I use them, what do folk think of them...

I use it on 2 machines with XP-home and my kids have XP-Pro. Works fine on all and they all use NTFS. As long as you tell it to search 'complete hard drive' because urls are in different place on XP...
