Opinions please?
Just bought an Epson 3170 Photo scanner. It came with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0. Is this a decent piece of software for home use? Won't be doing anything fancy. Just scanning old family pics with many in black n' white from paper albums. Might want to do a bit of color correction on others that have faded a bit. XP-home is the OS...
Thanks for any suggestions.

I assume Photoshop Elements is similar to the old Photoshop 5 LE that shipped with my sound card ages ago, ie a cut-down version of Photoshop.
If that's the case, it's fine. It's missing some of the more advanced features, but for amateur photo retouching it's fine. Even comes with the same steep learning curve.

Ridgerunr, I used photo Elements for a while on this little computer. To me is was better than PhotoDeluxe. It's more than the Photoshop LE also because it uses more tools and can do more than the PS LE could. If you just want to look see you can go here:

There are forums you check out at Adobe and tutorials available also.
Hope this helps!!

Thank you both for the replies. photolady, after watching the over views at the site you gave, it's plain to see the photoshop thing i got with an epson printer 'bout a' hundred years ago(well,,maybe closer to 6 years ) was very primitive compared to this newer one. It seems it will do all i want for now.
Also just bought a Nikon Coolpix 3100 digicam. Gonna' be my first shot at this sort of thing. But i've just 'got' to get a hobby that will keep me away from this 'puter' That is, 'til i start playin' with the pics i'll take 'out in the wilderness' around here...
Thanks again!

I have a lot of wilderness where I'm at now, and being a pro photog, you'd think I'd spend less time on this computer. NOT!! LOL So, I wish you luck!!
I think the program you got some six years ago was probably PhotoDeluxe, as I have several versions of this gotten with printers/scanners over the years. And now, Adobe doesn't even support that program anymore. It was limited and the only use I got out of it, was the ability to colorize b/w photos.

Yep,,your correct photolady,,now that you mention it,it was Photo Deluxe. Pretty puny to say the least.
On the gettin' away thing,,i gave up hunting quite a few years ago. Still love to fly fish and tie my own,but winter is 'not' the time to do that('cept for the tyin' part) But,,your probly right,,one look outside when a 'souwester' hits our coast and it'll be right here indoors snuggled down and buggin' the posters at Virt. Dr. most likely...

Me too. Don't tie my own never tried, but would love to learn.
As we have norwester here, that's when I spend most of my time on this computer. These last few days it's snowed, and temps are way down (read less than 20F) so I stay inside.
