Is it allergic to MSN.com?
Hi All,
Anybody have any ideas why a win98FE running IE6 should suddenly develop extreme problems with MSN.com? All other internet traffic is fine till you try to go to msn.com or their game zone or windows update site.
The network has worked fine until about a week ago and I can recall no changes or updates that could have caused the problem.
I have tried repairing ie explorer and msn explorer and have even formatted and reinstalled everything on the win98FE system and still the problem persists.
This pc is networked as a client to a win98SE server with a cable modem, Internet connection sharing is used. Zone Alarm Pro is running on the server.
Any ideas?

Virtual Patient- What you may try is calling the cable comp. and talk to them,it maybe something on their end.
Try that then post back and you can go from there.

Thanks for the reply Deltree , I had thought about doing that but... the server can access all the sites it wants to with no problems at all ... so I had thought that it could not be causing a problem for one machine and not the other?
Any other ideas?

Virtual Patients- It may be a/some program you are running,are you running any kind pop-up or spy program? If so, check to see if you might have msn blocked out? I know I have a problem with win. update; but I know of a way around this:because WIN.UPDATE has changed their server and this is the problem a lot of us are having!What you might try is turning off any of those programs(spy or pop-up) and try msn site and see if that works?
Then you can go from there.

Thanks Deltree but unfortunately that's can't be the problem the machine with the problems has been formatted and the only software installed apart from windows is internet explorer, messenger, msn explorer and AVG anti virus.

Virtual Patient-some things that maybe causing the problem?
1.Security and Content Settings in IE.
2.Verify that IE is configured to use SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0.
3.In iuident.txt go down to:
[IUServerURLs] make sure this is in their:
ServerCount=2
Server1="http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/"
Server2="http://a248.e.akamai.net/
Look and see, if not put those in it just the way I have them.
Post Back and let me know if this help"s
