    Off Topic for Sep 19

    Hi Folks

Hope I've not jumped the gun, but it's 10:30 Saturday evening here, and I don't see an off topic thread for this weekend.

Well here's hoping this one is OK.

Things that get up your nose.

I'll post a couple about some of the posters here, but I don't intend this to be 'Knock the regular posters' thread. It for anything which gets up your nose. With hopefully, where appropriate, some constructive content.

Things that get up my nose.

Posters who reply to new, or very recently new posters, without any form of greeting, or gentle approach.

The poor posters come here looking for some help, most posters do the right thing but there are a few who give a terse comment about searching for the topic, posting on wrong boards or the grand-daddy of them all, a one line link to another thread or worse, a google search.

The later two are just as bad, IMO, for replys to any members.

Phew, got that off my chest, feel much better now.

The constructive bit I would hope is obvious in this case. BF

    sup bigfred,

I agree with you completely. Although I would like to stress one point. I am the type of person that doesnt normally greet on respose to post. But I normally feel it is not needed as these ppl are awaiting a respose and could care less if someone says hi!!

    Hi Fred

I agree with what you are saying but sometimes even to help others you have to do a bit of research yourself and that's when good old google comes into play.

It's nice to greet people with a Hi, Hello or something similar.

Nothing really gets up my nose.

I just wish people would respond to their posts because I would like to know the outcome, especially when the problem has been solved.

    And

I don't like blunt, rude or sarcastic comments but I do love the subtle humour you find her on Vdr.

I'm proud to be associated with such a happy and helpful community.

Got that off my chest and it didn't hurt one bit.

PS Can't work out what IMO is, my mind is a blank, what is it?

If I am in a hurry, getting to work for example , a link maybe all I have time for. Been known to scramble a post or 4 for that reason.

8:24 Am PDT, yep Saturday morning.

    Good Morning BJ

Yep it's morning here now also, Sunday morning. Hi to you also TJ, How's life in the old country? Would love to be back there and taking a trip down the road from Cheshire and through the Cotswolds and all that, could even drop into a pub for a drop of scrumpie or a pork pie or something, could even make it to Bristol for the night.

I agree that most of the time this site is very friendly, some lovely humor. It does make it a pleasure when posters come back and advise if something works, or what other things they found.

I guess those you never hear from could also fit into the "gets up my nose theme" but not really, it's just a bonus when they do come back.

Hi to you too Tang, never been to Florida, one day perhaps.

I guess another one for the "up my nose" could be posters who give no indication where they are. I supose if they wish to remain anonomous thats OK too. But for me, having travelled extensivly it's nice to think of the place while posting the reply.

Well off to bed. CU BF

My biggest peeve are people taking over other people's threads. It can get really confusing! Recently I was trying to help a relatively new poster and another person took over the thread posting question after question to the point that the poor slob I was trying to help in the first place was feeling ignored! In the end the mess was straightened out by our great admin but by that point niether person looking for help got any they simply gave up posting back.

Great topic BTW BigFred! Could be a nice launch pad to retool ettiquette for this board.

Hi to one and all from the glorious Heart of Cheshire

I know what you mean Calpitor it can be extremely irritating when people hijack threads and lead them completely off topic.

BTW Have you seen this Accused AOL phisher spammed the FBI seems she tried it on the wrong guy.

    Well,

In the UK it's now what we call 'Tea time' (Saturday) and therefore good evening to all from the uk.

Nice topic Fred and I agree with Calpitor about the ettiquette theme.

Got to go now, wife nagging, off to a wedding reception in the heart of Cheshire.

Hey Fred I bet you miss all of the British ales, I'll be sampling a few tonight.

    'Cheers' as they say.

my "up the nose" same as most here. Ok, I admit I don't always say hi to the person, but I have no excuse.

Most posters aren't interested in carrying on a freindly conversation, all they want are answers. But what does erk me is someone coming in and posting a way out in space bit of humor where we are trying to help someone in need. A little uncouth of them to say the least.

And the other problem of someone hijacking a thread. Posting their question in the others post. err....

One last one. Slammers. If you have something to say not related to the thread, post a PM. Never reply in anger to anyone in a thread. It's just not kosher.

OilPatch197, whether it's legal or not, it is something that we do not appreciate around here, generally it means that someone is too lazy to start thier own post & when it occurs it takes away from what the original poster is trying to fix & causes confusion. BJ

PS: I did notice the smiley face, hoping that you weren't serious.
