Help with removable media
I need some advice to give to my son who live 8 hours from me.
He has had trouble with his digital camera software, it is not showing up in "My Computer" He has purchased a card reader previously and when loading the driver from the provided disk again it is not showing up in "My Computer".
I have the same card reader and it shows up in "My Computer" as "removable disk F DRIVE"
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I take it he's using Windows98 and it's a USB card reader?
Couple of thoughts:
Is he using the USB sockets on the motherboard, ie adjacent to the keyboard/mouse PS2 sockets? If not, try using them rather than casefront connectors or any on the card backplates.
When loading the driver again, did he;
1. Un-install the old driver first, if an option is available, either from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, or from an Uninstall option in a Start Menu entry for the reader?
2. Make sure the reader was not plugged in when the driver was installed (unless the instructions specifically said to install the driver with the reader connected)?

He is running 98se and yes he is using the usb port next to keyboard etc. The software was uninstalled first and the reader was not connected until after the driver was installed.
I was there 2 weeks ago when he did not have the card reader and checked everything else and could not come up with a solution.
Any other thoughts?

Next thing is probably find out if his reader is actually working, so at the moment, only substitution (try his reader on your system, or vice versa), but 8 hours away... post? Or if he got the reader locally, could where he bought it test it on a system?
