What is your #1 Internet annoyance and why?

Of the 10 I listed, Spam would have to be first. I try to minimize it as much as possible, but still it is there to greet me.

As far as Popups/Ads, Spyware/Adware, Viruses/Trojans and Security issues, I've done very well with avoiding and limiting those.

Porn, I don't go there, but it has come looking for me. Just last week Lisa wanted me to check her out!

    Internet access 56k, well it ain't 21.6k

Hi I use Opera's v7.11 and must say that I am not bothered by spam, popups or malaware. My life is far too boring for anyone to send me porn,so that leaves me with Photolady's 21.6 heck I can knit faster than that

    Unhappy Top Internet Aggravations

Hey Fuelman, you left out one of my biggies: Invalid Page Faults, and messages such as "We're sorry, but Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and will have to close." Yikes!!

    In other words, MS coding.

    1) Very few: SpywareBlaster,IE Spyads, and if i cruise to unknown sites, Popup Stopper is loaded and cocked.

    2) Very little in my main email addy. Go into my 'throwaway' at Yahoo and hotmail 'bout once a' week and give my clickin' finger a workout on the 'select all' and 'delete' checkmarks...

    3) About the same as (1). And run Trillian instead of having MSN Mess or Yahoodeehoo or any IRC installed...

    4) As said in number one,and if something should sneak thru',SpyBot S&D. It's had very little to do in quite awhile...

    5) Good firewall, Zone Alarm 2.6 does the trick for me. Good AV program. eTrust Anti Virus has protected me well since the days of IPE free. Sensible email filters and ZA's email protection.

    6) Suppose i'm lucky where i live, but grabbed cable as soon as it was available in my area. 2 plus years with MSN dialup seems like a memory from the black hole now...

    7) Lack of security no problem here, but feel for those who haven't been around the Net long enough,or who don't have the savvy to look for places like Virt. Dr. to learn and get help if they "do" get whacked with a' nasty. Hackers? or Crackers? Or script kiddies? Not all the same threat, but pays to stay on top of what their latest garbage is,where you may get it and about the same as leaving your car unlocked in a dark parking lot with a $400.00 stereo shinin' at them thru' the window and/or a purse/wallet laying in the seat in full sight if you "don't" pay attention. Duuh,,,

    8) Dialup? I feel for you. Just need to find all the fixes you can for things like VPN, Winsock layer, etc. even if on DSL or Cable. And if on dialup, also be sure of your mechanical connection "to" your house(contact phone co.) and "in" your house(old, corroded connections in boxes and elsewhere) are in good shape.

    9) Thank heaven she has "Little Face" to play with and calm her down...

    10) Being retired is no excuse, so "my" problem is too d*mn "much"time on this funky machine! ( Just got'ta haul out my fly tyin' tools and rod and get "away" from this whirrin' monster! )

    Thanks for the poll Fuelm@n

My annoyances: "people who post about my slow connection" roflol. Only kidding Fuelm@n.

Really though it's due to the fact that I live 13 miles out of town on a country road on top of a mountain. While living in town I was getting much better connection speed. Wiring is new in this house.

I've got all the gadgets: spybot S&D, Adshield, and ZA. I haven't gotten any spam like porn?? not this machine. mine are usually trying to sell me something or wanting to loan me money on my house (which I don't have) those are annoying to me.

And yes, my biggest annoyance is not having the option for cable or broadband. These people here are still living in the 60's.

Ridge: flyfishing.....one of my favorite things to do.....but like you, I can't seem to get away from this computer long enough.

    ISPs who are unhelpful.

Went through a patch where the connection would drop out after 5 minutes or less was dialing up easily 5+ times a night to try and get a decent connection.

Reinstalled Windows, played around with settings etc etc, finally sent ISP an email and they came back with the standard stuff about servers connections, line condition etc etc.

I advised them that nothing had changed at my end, especially the phoneline.

They said there was little to be done.

Anyway a bit more searching by me revealled they had changed the dial in number, although they told me the other one was still the one they give out.

Needless to say since finding this new number I've been able to stay connected for 3+ hours easily with out a hitch.

I advised them of this and they said it was just coincidence and the other conditions in my overall connection must have been fixed ??

*Looks for the box marked "all of the above"* Hoping to eventually get my own computer and not have to share with hubby and the kids...that'll stop a lot of my problems with spyware and popups!
