Getting just a blank screen when trying to go to "Windows Update"
Soon as I click on Windows Update, all I get is a blank screen, the url is http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ is that correct. Or is the site down.
Thanks,

Hi this can be caused by an AV program(trend Micro for one) or third party download managers disable any that you might have. Then go here and download windows scripting host for 2000:-
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ist/webdev.asp
Then you will need to reregister the following:- Start /run and type
regsvr32 c:\winnt\system32\vbscript.dll
regsvr32 c:\winnt\system32\mshtml.dll
Hope this helps.

jenae,
That option didn't work, turned out being a program I installed last week called "Zero Popup". I didn't like the program so I went and un-installed it yesterday. I reinstalled it today, and reset all the settings to protect and stop nothing, then try Windows Updates again, but this time with success.
I figured it was it since I rarely install anything on Win2000, ZP was one of the last.
Thanks for the replies.

Fuelm@n--I do not think that is the Windows Update URL any longer, but it will get you there by redirect. (The actual URL is
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp )
So that is not your problem.
As has been mentioned your AV program could be blocking you. So could a firewall or using a proxy server. And you have to have ActiveX control settings at Enable (or Prompt) to use WinUp. (Put WinUp into your Trusted Sites to accomplish that most easily.) I cannot remember if Windows Script Host is also required, though I see jenae feels you do need it.
If none of that helps, look here

I understand the blank screen problem is occuring only at the WinUp site. Otherwise you could also look here
