    Question Empty Network Connections Window

    Hello,

    Newbie here. I recently installed a few registry patches that I found on a guy's website (known as "Black Viper") that are supposed to speed up my Windows XP. Problem is, the patches somehow removed my internet connection, and when I go to my Network Connections window, it's empty... no connection icons are shown. When I called my ISP's technical support, they were clueless once I told them my Network Connections window was empty. I tried contacting BV, but I get the feeling it'll be a while before he gets back to me with any suggestions. Does anyone know how I can get the connection back? I unfortunately did not have restore feature turned on (enabled it but forgot to reboot) and I apparently messed up when I backed up my original registry... ok, I admit it, I didn't back up my registry because I'm a lazy fool.

    So can anyone help this lazy fool?

    I recently installed a few registry patches
    it would help if we knew what the exact patches you installed from BlackViper were.

    Oops, sorry. That is something I should have mentioned. I found the following patches in his "Windows XP Services Registry Patch Guide" :

    1) "Safe Windows XP Services Configuration"
    2) "Gaming Windows XP Services Configuration"
    3) "Super Tweak Windows XP Services Configuration"

    All were installed in that same order and all were found on this page right here. -Near the bottom of the page.

    Btw, thanks for the welcome, it looks like a great forum!

    go back to page you downloaded the patches from. download and install the "Default Windows XP Services Configuration". this should will restore your services back to the way they were. you could also reinstall the "Safe Windows XP Services Configuration" you already downloaded. his safe settings should be fine for you. I wouldn't recommend using his gaming or supertweak settings as they will disable things that you might want to use (the problem you are running into now). his services 411 page describes what each service is. to manually enable/disable services you can type services.msc at the run prompt.
