I'm interested to know as well! I tried it but seeing that I have the Windows Desktop Update already installed it mustn't show up as an option.
In the run box I had to type the following:
C:\Progra~1\Intern~1\IE5Setup.exe /C:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_WIN /I:Y"
Does that make a difference I wonder?

Hi PLansdowne,
It DOES work! I had to use either IE5.01 or IE5.01sp1 (so presumably IE5.5 works as well) but IE5 didn't work. Maybe the IE5SETUP.EXE for IE5 didn't point to the correct location. The added bonus was that the desktop update files were also stored on C: so further updates are easier.
The update files are:
filelist.dat (script file)
ie.txt
Ie4shl95.cab
iesetup.dir
iesetup.ini
plus an "it's safe to delete this folder" text file.
What's intriguing is that the .CAB file is part of the IE5 distribution (at least it's on my CD version of IE5, although it's not on IE5.01) Surely it would have been easy for M$ to use it to provide the desktop update for Win95 users installing IE5? An odd omission...

Here's another way and I've made it available for download. It does work with 5.0 as well.....
