No mouse in SuSE
I am just started to use SuSE Pro 8.1 and I have hit my first problem. Turned my computer on this morning and the mouse doesn't work, every time it loads Linux YaST is displayed asking me to choose my mouse, its a optical USB.
I choose my mouse and it continues booting up, then when it gets into the graphical login and nothing the mouse cursor will not even move.
First I thought I was my mouse, but I tried another USB mouse, then a PS/2 mouse and finally even a serial mouse, but still nothing.
My system specs are
IBM Personal Computer 300PL
Intel Pentium II 400mhz
384mb ram
40gb hd
PLEASE can someone help me as I really like to look of SuSE.
thank you very much!! in advance.
Yuri.
BTW - sorry if my post is a bit confusing, as my brain hurts now, after 4 hours try to get it to work.

OMG!! - I feel SO stupid, I booted into the graphical interface again and nothing, so I reached around the back of the case and unplugged the usb connection, then plugged it back in.
The computer beeped twice, and then away it went.
Thanks anyway.

Well I think that I spoke too soon, every now and again when I boot up the mouse will not respond, the optical led is not lit up.
The only way to fix is to unplug then plug in again.
Any suggestions?
Yuri.

This could be one of those strange linux problems Yuri.........
Did you get a usb/ps2 converter with your mouse, if so I would use that and set the mouse up as a normal ps/2, I use a optical usb with slackware 9.0r2, and that was how I got it to work.
Try these tweaks, go to /dev and create a symbolic link (if its not already there) from /dev/mouse to /dev/psaux
ln -l /dev/mouse /dev/psaux.
Now open up sax2, this is the suse video and input device config tool, change the Z Axis mapping to ZAxisMapping "4 5" and the mouse protocol from PS/2 to IMPS/2, that will at least get the wheel working and may be enough to get the mouse working.
I will do a bit of digging about the suse site for you to see if I can find a similar problem somebody else may have had..........

Ok, I found the following, you may find these useful:
http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/wessels_sax.html
Problems with USB Mice (suse 8.0)
USB mouse not working after reboot
Have a look at the second link in particular that may be the one.
Goodluck

Thanks rami3, I tried all of the suggestions that you posted and even tried the links, but still to no success.
Then I got annoyed, so I plugged in the PS/2 adaptor again, rebooted the computer and removed all partitions, then installed SuSE again and now everything works like it should.
Just one other question, I notice that there is a lot of cds with Suse (7 cds) what are they all for?? I know that the first two are used to install suse.

The other CD's hold applications, old or deprecated libraries and source code, when your installing via yast2 you will be asked for these CD's if required, try installing some of the programming tools such as the Sun's Java SDK or libc5 and you will be asked for these CD's, but for the most part all the most popular apps and tools are on the first lot of CD's.
BTW, if your using a wheel mouse you can use the tip I posted above to get the wheel working: ie change protocol to IMPS/2 etc.

Thanks for the info rami3, I had tried to go to the SuSE website to find out, but when I got there all I could find was links to preorder 8.2
Also, changed the protocol for mouse to IMPS/2 and wheel is working perfectly.
I don't know why I didn't use SuSE sooner, its great!
