corrupt dll files
I recently had problems with my browser locking up. I was given this link by another member:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-GB;q281679
I wasn't able to fix it by going through the regsvr32 method, but was able to get my browser working by repairing the system
with the win 2000 cd. Now 2 weeks later, I'm having the same problem again. I repaired it with the windows 2000 cd again (browser fixed) and
just for grins, I decided to check each individual file dll file through the run screen. Turns out 3 files never got fixed even though the browser issue was fixed.
These files (Msjava.dll, Actprxy.dll, and Oleaut32.dll). When I type in regsvr2 /i msjava.dll it gives me this msg:
"Msjava.dll was loaded, but dllinstall entry point was not found. Dll install may not be exported or a corrupt msjava.dll may be in memory. Consider using PView to detect and remove it." It gives the same msg for the remaining dll files.
I've look at several sources online, but nothing has been helpful. Most of the problems claim a bad update for for IE in Win 98. Not much information for 2000. The thing is, I haven't updated anything on my computer (minus antivirus updates) in the past month. Running the Windows 2000 repair disk twice has not helped.
Is it possible for me to copy these files from another windows 2000 system? Will they have a version difference and will this matter. Will this permanentely fix my browser issue? Any ideas how my dll files keep getting corrupted?
Any help provided will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi you will need to do a search on your system for these dll's(use the search feature in windows explorer) note down where they are located. If you download non corrupted versions and try to delete and replace the corrupted dll's windows will not let you. You will need to do this for each of the corrupted dll's and for each folder they are located in.(hence the search and noting where they are on your system) This example applies to all you will need to follow each one through their folder locations I have choosen msjava.dll as the example:-
Go to this site and download the DLL's that you need , the easiest way to select the right version is to look at the file size of your present dll's and match to the one's you download. This site:-
http://dll.yaroslavl.ru/index.php3?lng=&in_char=A
Now remember where you downloaded them to and reboot.
Press F8 to open the command prompt during boot.
Now you have to change to the folder where your corrupted dll's are stored , so at the command prompt type cd c:\winnt\system32 (this will be one location)
press enter. Now rename the existing dll's by typing:-
ren msjava.dll.old (press enter)You need to do this for each of the corrupted dll's .Once you have done this change to the folder where you downloaded the new DLL's ie:- cd c:\download....(whatever you have created) and copy these files to the c:\winnt\system32 folder(this will be one location) . Type for each:- copy msjava.dll c:\winnt\system32 (press enter) do this for all three. See how you go.

jenae - won't the cached versions need replacing as well? Otherwise I'd think that the system file protection (which pretty much has to have bad versions as well) would just replace the new ones with bad ones.

Hi Newt I hoped when Lilith did an explorer search the C: winnt\system32\dllcache would show up that's the reason I suggested the search, and the noting down of their locations.
