    returned email

I have been getting almost every email that I send to hotmail and msn.com address's returned undeliverable. They come back and say that there was 20 attempts before they were rejected? Could there be something wrong with my mail settings

If your ISP is related to SBC (southwesternbell), they are having major problems. My company is using them...One of their suggested solution that isn't fool proof is to change the outgoing to mail.sbcglobal.net

I'm not sure if this will apply to you, but "hotmail or msn" e-mail accounts may be closed. You may try contacting the individuals you are trying to reach by another method and ask them if their e-mail accounts are still in use and open. Hotmail and MSN tend to close e-mail accounts that haven't been in use for 30 days, I say this because MSN closed my e-mail account just for that reason. I still have the option to open the MSN e-mail account if I choose, but why waste my time, they'll just close it again.

I know for a fact that the accounts are active. I am currently using a ISP in Deming, NM for my outgoing email and I don't know what phone service they use!

Hi bojovan....Has this just started happening to existing e-mail addresses you use alot or are these new contacts? If it just started today, I find it hard to believe that your settings need changing. It sounds more like your ISP is having some troubles. I would save them in your Outbox if you can and try again in a bit.
Hope you find out the problem soon or hope the problem works itself out soon!

    Good Luck!

The problem is getting worse. I used to be able to send email to any of my hotmail or msn.com address's and now nothing goes through, they all come back undeliverable. I have contacted my ISP and they tell me that it can not be there fault? I know for a fact that the address are all active

If you have any Web based e-mail accounts, then try sending them that way. (example: yahoo, softhome, etc...)

Also when theses e-mails return undeliverable, check in the header and make sure that the e-mail you sent it to is displayed correctly.

    Hi bojovan,

As of 10:48AM 2/28/03 Roadrunner Cincinnati, OH has a post on their home page (in member services) that MSN has problems with e-mails and they are working on it.

It could be just a coincidence that you are having problems but it looks like it's more MSN problems. I don't know anybody who has a MSN account or I try and see if they were receiving.

    Just my 2 cents

Question RE: What Format do you send your email?

bojovan: The reason I ask what Format you are using, because in the past I suddenly found that I was getting some emails bounced back to me because I was not using "plain email". Some email sites have gotten so virus conscious, that unless you are sending plain email, they bounce your email back to you. Especially Hotmail. Also, I have found that it is almost impossible to send links to web sites to a lot of my friends and family, because some of their email programs considers links to be attachments and because their email program thinks the web links are attachments, they get bounced back to me.
    Just a thought.
