Can't preview thumbnails

I have WIN2000 NT/Office 2000 professional--up until a couple days ago, I was able to open picture folders and view thumbnails. I can still click on individual pictures, but can't view images when I click on thumbnail--I get a message where the image should be---that says "no preview available". Any ideas to troubleshoot or resolve?
