    Administrator cannot see application

Can anyone tell my why, in Win XP/Pro, a user with full rights to the hard drive would not be able to see an application that has been installed? For example, I installed an app with the "User" account on the workstation, which is administrator equivalent, and even the Administrator account cannot see it under Programs. Users that log in from the domain cannot see it, even though I've given them full rights to the application folder (and even to the entire hard drive).

I've recently converted my XP machines to NTSF from FAT32. Would this have anything to do with it?
    Thanks for any help,
    Dei

Each user has his or her own Start Menu, defined in \Documents and Settings\*username*\Start Menu

There is also an "All Users" part that gets merged with everyone else's

The program's installation routine may have only installed the icons for the specific user who ran the install. You can copy them over to other users' Start Menus, or into the \Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

It sounds like the problem is that the shortcuts aren't showing up-- you definetely have access to the program files as an admin.

In addition, some poorly conceived programs want to write info in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER section of the registry, which means that the info is only visible to that user. So you would have to install the app under each username

The shortcuts show up on the user's desktop, but they are white, like the icon is missing, and they say "Invalid shortcut" in the properties. I had originally put the shortcuts in the "Desktop" folder of "All Users", and also directly into the individual user's desktop folder...both ways it was still the same thing. I can't even see the programs if I "explore" the hard drive with full rights to it! Weird, huh?

I figured this out (finally)! Apparently, I need to read something to help me understand how securities in NTFs works! I had given full rights to all users on the folders holding the application, but it didn't automatically apply to the child folders within the app folder. I had to un-check the option to apply permissions from above and check the one to apply to children. I still don't really understand how this is working....do the inherited permissions supercede the ones applied directly to the folder? I had actually given the user full rights to the entire hard drive, but apparently, it still didn't apply to the contents of these folders. Once I unchecked/checked those boxes, then I had to find the application .exe file in the folder itself (not in Programs) and create the shortcuts from there.

    Anyway, it works now (whew!)!

    Thanks again, Rapmaster!
