Question XP doesn't recognize CD Drives

When going into My Computer, my cd-rom and -rw drives are not present. In the device manager they have the yellow ! on them.

So, I uninstalled them, then had them auto detected, but the installation had problems again.

I uninstalled them again, then rebooted and had the same problem. They are detected, and the names are in the device manager, but they have the exclamation marks.

The error message in properties says

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

    The troubleshooting only suggests uninstall/install.

the system restore I tries said it can't complete system restore. (that never seems to work for me anyway).

The last item that I did before the problem was uninstall Ulead 6.5 trial version. I think that I made a mistake when I allowed the uninstall to remove the shared files.

So I tried to reinstall it in hopes that it would replace the files and fix the registry, but it didn't.

Any ideas on how the registry can be repaired to access my cd drives?

    Thanks

did you try reinstalling your motherboard's drivers or updating to the latest via chipset drivers??

I don't know if it is related, by I am trying to restore an old image file with Drive Image. It is giving me an error #91 that says Disk Manager has been detected on drive 1 but Disk Manager is not running. Then I can only reboot.

Does anybody know how to run Disk Manager in Caldera?

Here's the solution for the disappearing cd drives. It can happen with other software besides Easy CD Creator as mentioned in the article:

Glad to help. That problem had me pulling my hair out last year before I found the Microsoft fix.
