the damn thing keeps dialing all by itself!!!
Hopefully, someone out there will be able to help me with my little "dilema". As of a few days ago, my PC will all of a sudden attempt to dial up to my connection. It presents no patterns in times of the day, but it generally tries to do so at least once an hour. The dial up connection is not being requested by a program for updates, IE4, etc, so I don´t have the slightest idea how to stop this. I also tried running Norton Virus Detector on it to see if it could be anything that I downloaded from the Internet.
If any of you have any insight on this problem, I would really appreciate your support. Thanks.

check the startup menu, etc to see if there are any internet programs running. IE might have a startup that is dialing in, etc.

I had the same problem and mine I discovered was because I had Norton Utilities. In the System Doctor I had set it up with the Internet speedometer sensor. This would make it keep trying to access the internet url and then the automatic dialer would kick in. Or maybe you upgraded something from Microsoft and it didn't install completely. Sometimes after an update it will try to connect to the internet. In that case try reinstalling the software you just updated. That's all I can think of---
