Easy CD Creator Prob: Want to record to hard drive first.

Using Easy CD Creator Platinum 5 and Windows XP.

Had difficulty copying audio CDs. Continually got buffer overrun errors, ruining a blank CD each time. One source suggested I copy first to my hard drive to avoid this error. Went to Easy CD Creator and clicked on copy CD. Clicked on Advance Tab. On this tab, there is a check mark next to Test & Copy and a check mark next to Buffer Underrun Prevention. The option to copy to hard drive first is grey and cannot be selected.

What can I do to give myself the option of copying to the hard drive first, to avoid buffer overrun errors?

(Had the same problem of buffer overrun errors while trying to use Nero Burning.)

I had not noticed what you described so I just fired up Easy CD Creator Platinum and got the same greyed out options as yourself. So I thought I would run the Test option. That went off OK but, damn me, the program had actually copied the CD!!!! So my blank CD is no longer blank with a copy I did not want.
I think there is a bug in there somewhere.

I'm on the wrong computer right now to test it, but I've heard that you have to uncheck the "Buffer Underrun Protection" in order for the copy to hard drive option first to become available.

As soon as I read your response, I went to the Advance Tab, unchecked Buffer Underrun, and the record to hard drive option is still grey. Back to the drawing board.

If you use the "Soundstream" program in ECD, it should let you copy to file then burn to CD or several other options. Just tell it what format to use when burning. At least "mine" does...

How about using the CD-Burner as both source drive and destination drive? Then, it seems to me, EZCD will have no choice but to copy files to the hard drive.

Also, you probably have this covered, but regarding the original problem that made you stop burning on-the-fly, what write speeds are the CD blanks and what speed are you trying to burn them at?

Just one more reason why I am glad that I replaced EZ CD Creator with Nero.

For Easy CD to create a CD when I had requested a test only is just daft. That did not happen with earlier versions. I have Nero also as it was bundled with my new CDRW so I think I'll change to that.

Got it working now. Followed the advice of Ridgerunr, billmanhart and rwinegar.

Using ecdc soundstream to load to my hard drive and it works. Tried Nero and it now works, also. I think the initial problem with Nero was that I did not understand what Nero was asking for. Now, both work well.
