    printer problem

Hi - I wonder if anyone can help. I have a Duron 900 system with 30Gb HD and 512 Mb ram. Whenever I use my printer (epson photo 700) i get an 'error/retry' message constantly popping up. The file will print OK but every time this message appears the printer pauses. It can take 15 minutes to print one A4 page. This doesn't happen if i am not running any programs, but it even happens if i've only got WinMX downloading in the background.
I am using the latest drivers from Epson so it obviously isn't that.
I've played about with the spool settings and have changed the data types from Raw to NT EMF but can't find any combination which improves the problem.
I have exactly the same problem when i run Windows XP but have no problems with Win98 or Win Me.
Many thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can give me.
    Best wishes - Ian

    dont rule out the drivers

if it only happens when a program is running then it DOES sound like a driver problem

I would uninstall the printer from Start->Settings->printers->right click delete and reintall the printer.
