    GOth52--Again, thanks
I thought it might help to supply some info what this patch does. MS did not make it easy to find out.

Hi, thanks for the link to the update site. My version of internet explorer is 5.5 .4134.06001C and the updates are for 5.5 SP1 & 5.5 SP2. So, I'm wondering which one to choose. Thank you.

Smokyieus , check your version out HERE.
If I read it right, you don't have to do anything!

Thanks Poppy, I checked that link but must admit I'm still confused - are you saying I don't need the security patch - is it already included in my version? Thanks

IMHO you don't need it. I base this solely on the fact that whatever they are patching is in a version newer than yours. I use IE5.01 SP1 and decided not to update any further.....so don't patch if it's not my version or earlier, and have had no problems.
....I may be all wet, but that's the way I treat M$ updates.

Thanks again, Poppy - guess I'll just leave it be.

Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer (Q323759)

    Q323759
So, this thread is pertaining to this patch, right?

Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer (Q323759)

My VDr search for the patch name came up nada, so I've included it here so future searches might hit the thread.

I'm wondering if it's a prudent move to remove old IE patches before installing this one - any thoughts?
Welshjim , I'd be interested to hear your take on the ins'n outs on this patch - comments please?

^dAvEy^--Yes, you've connected the right MSKB article to this patch.
I really cannot offer any comments more than what MS provides at
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...n/MS02-047.asp
Click on the + signs for Technical Details, FAQ, Additional Information. I guess we have to take it all at face value. Of course, if installing the patch causes problems of its own, we'll learn in future posts!!
The problems were first announced in June (!) and only a workaround manual fix was offered at that time for IE6. So nice to have an official patch, I guess.
MS does not say anything about removing old patches first. I suspect they are not removeable, just as this one is "Uninstallable"

If the above Security Bulletin MS02-047 is not enough reading, here is the official MSKB article

Thanks Jim - I'll be doing the reading and probably be installing the new patch.
Fortunately, I've recently been getting familiar with Total Uninstall, so if I install the patch through it, I can rid of it if necessary.
Unfortunately, I did not have Total uninstall when installing Q299618 and Q290108, but I found uninstalls listed for them via RegCLeaner.
    PHP Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Internet Explorer Update Q299618
    PHP Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Internet Explorer Update Q290108
If, after doing the reading, I decide to install the new patch, I'll probably try uninstalling the above first.

    Thanks again!
