    Angry Acebot virus!!

Does anyone know how I can get rid of this trojan virus as I have found it on my computer. I have ZoneAlarm but it it just disables it! Can I get rid of it totally without buying a anti virus?
    Many Thanks!

Go to the Symantec site, type in acebot in the search box. It lists one trojan worm that sounds like what you have as it disables your AV. Removal instructions are there.

    Re: Antivirus.
I'm sure there is an antivirus software called 'grisoft' that is supposed to be totally free...read it in a mag somewhere (note to self: cataloque mags!)
Sorry, haven't it to hand, but I'm sure that if you just type in 'grisoft' something should come up.
When My Norton runs out (pre-installed 90 day use) I'm gonna try it myself.

    antivirus

I have had Mcafee anti virus software and found it slowed my computer down. I downloaded a free anti virus program from
www.grisoft.com called AVG and it works like a charm.
Its very easy to use re: scheduling and updates as well. So far it has caught 5 or 6 e-mails that were infected !! Give it a try

    Hiya

Its not really a virus, but a hacker tool:

And a free online virus checker, is this one:

    Hello all!
I used the Housecall free scan a while ago, and found it great...but when I tried to scan today. it kept failing on the update download...got to 95, the asked if i wanted to retry.

I did, but after two times i got fed up and cancelled it!

    Is this a common problem?
Or could it be due to my Auto-protect (Norton)? As my uploading speeds are really slow lately.....took me a day to get into this site!

    Hiya

Not sure, but if you take off the Auto-Protect, can you download all the files then?

From that link I gave, you can edit the registry manually, if you're still having problems

    Hi Eddie,

Yep, tried that, but it made no difference.
One thing i did was load a program from PC utilities, called TrojanHunter (30-day shareware).

It sed my pc was clear, but things seem to be a bit quicker now....
plus, Ad-aware found 'Savenow' stuff in my Reg (I'd only been doing C disk checks without realising it! for a while!)

Maybe that had summat to do with it?
These are the only things I've had the nerve to try, after my pc crashed.
    As for Housecall; same prob
