    Hidden Partition

I have an OEM machine with 60Gb single drive.

I want to find out if I have a hidden partition.

My Computer\C drive shows 57.2Gb capacity - I know it always shows slightly less.

C Drive properties page says capacity:

    61,477,126,144 bytes - 57.2Gb

MSDOS prompt page - Fdisk/status shows:

    Fixed Disk Drive Status
    Disk Drv Mbytes Free Usage
    1 58644 1 100%
    C: 58643

Am I correct in thinking that all this indicates no hidden partition?

(The formatting of the FDisk bit above has got a bit garbled in the posting!)

    Thanks

Hmm, looks like a large difference, but
61,477,126,144 bytes = 57.2Gb, that is correct calculated (divided by 1024).
Maybe the HD vendor exceeded the capacity a bit by saying it is 60 GB ?

Anyway, if you use fdisk it will show you all partitions and their corresponding size.

Doesn't look like there's anything hidden to me.

    Thanks K G G

If I use Fdisk will it show a hidden partition and if so can I delete it?

I'm asking this because I want to partition my HDD into 3 before doing a clean install of XP and I don't want any manufacturer's hidden partition to remain (if there is one).

I think sometimes they set up a small hidden partition from which to restore the OS if necessary, although I do have a Recovery Disc so maybe it restores off the disc.
