ECC sdram vs standard SPD sdram
Hi,
when a mobo documentation tells me it supports SPD, can ECC be fitted and be expected to work reliably?
mobo is CUSL2C
it's fitted with muskin high quality ECC
(have no more details, but the CAS/ras timings ain't the question here)
CPU Piii-600EB @133
Kind regards, Jaak

According to this ASUS Specification page, their CUS2-C 815EP Motherboard supports up to a "Maximum 512MB PC133/PC100 non-ECC SDRAM".

Thanks Vernon,
thing is, that machine works with ECC right now.
has worked for about a month, but today it developed a file corruption,
this was solved by putting an image back on when it turned out they was system files.
the owner asked me what I thought of this ECC thing, because he had just noticed it in his manual. (of which I already have a pdf)
anyway, went further using that link you posted, and since it hopped to intel I been looking a bit further at intel.
not a single peep wether or not it supports ECC in their TPS.
Gonna have to look if their chippy fora are still going. Intel killed plenty fora last year, and that's how i wound up here
any further thoughts on the differences between ECC and SPD are most welcome.

jaak,
Not sure if you got your ECC vs SPD answer or not.
ECC, as the name implies, involves error correction capabilities in the RAM to insure data integrity. SPD relates to the presence of circuitry on the chip where info about the memory module itself is stored and can be accessed by the bios. That info can then be used to configure timings, etc.
Please remember to post back whether your problem is resolved or
not, so that others may gain from the knowledge.
