Operation Delta 2 fairly exploded with posts. Therefore I made a quick change to 3. At this point for any new readers, the Queen of Hearts and I did not know enough to build our own computers. With the help of our teachers, our mentors, we will build them.

bistro,
This is not a "special purpose" computer I will be building, so per YOUR advice I will stick with the 7,200rpm.
And stick it out with what I have, just like it is, until then......soon

Alrighty. May I recommend, budget-wise, a Western Digital ATA-66 (I know, I know...some of you out there want the biggest and the baddest, but let's get reasonable here...). You pick the capacity; probably a 20 gig will do ya'. They're MUCH quieter than the Maxtors. Had a Maxtor awhile back that had GoBack on it. When it started writing or thrashing, it sounded like a 1968 IBM Selectric typewriter trying to type on sheetrock...got rid of it right quick. You say you only have 190 left on yours--let me think awhile and see what we can do to improve it's performance just a tidge while you're waiting.

Saw it, Mosaic.
I looked in there and it says:
Available space on Drive C: 181MB of 802MB(FAT32)
they are dwindling away.....

Ok, I would like to hear more on practicing with a hard drive and partitioning that Mosaic has been nudging us towards. Of course, as always, I don't know anything about this area. The Queen of Hearts can speak for herself.
I can just picture in my mind the gnomes rubbing their hands together in glee.

You most certainly may. And I do not care about the biggest and baddest. 20 Gigs is plenty. Wow ! HUGE compared to this. And should I need to be bigger could I add to that ?

Hast thou the desire to split a hard drive? Thou seekest a goodly thing. But beware! If thou should do so, thou must understandeth first The Sacred Way of Partitioning, which can be frought with danger and much cursing. Better to study and practice on thy neighbor's system first, for then thy system shall be preserved in the day thou screwest up..."
----The Holy Hard Drive Scroll, Chp 3, vs 98.
Q_o_H: Obviously, any of this will be for learning only--don't try to partition your current hd. Waiting for Mosaic1 to take the ball on this one...will jump in if needed.

Good Train,
I have written that down. Quality ? Is Western Digital a good name ?
Would I be proud of it ?
Oh I won't, bistro. Don't have much to partition do I ?
