    Nobody can eat just one...(chip!)

I have a 400 mhz Celeron on a Hawk motherboard, 128 megs RAM, sound & video cards, and want to know if jumping to a 700mhz Celeron would give this this system a good enough boost to make it worth the $$$.

    Thanks in advance, all!...

I believe the mobo will take the chip (it is the crappy i820 chipset board); the 700 will cost about $89.00...

You'll notice some pretty good preformance increase. For another 89 you can replace the mobo. But then, where do you draw the line.

You might look at AMD's Duron Cpu. Its being called the poor mans power pc. About $175 for 700 chip and mobo.

    Steve J.:

Thanx for your reply! Will probably do the 700 but am intrigued by the mobo thang; any board recommendations? All my cards are PCI's; can't afford to junk 'em (yet!).

    Is the chip install difficult?

The Asus boards seem to been the way to go... Giga-bytes also seem to be good... If your looking for Processing power cheap theses people seem to have good deals...
