Errors Errors ERRORS!!!
Windows is driving me nuts! I can't go to My Computer, My Documents, Control Panel. An error would come up if I do attempt to:
Explorer has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL.
Explorer will now close.
If you continue to experience problems,
try restarting your computer.
This has been the same for IE, but the error is <unknown>. I had IE5.5 but upgrade it to 6 when this happen. I am now using Netscape as a replacement of IE.
Does anybody know what's going on here? I'm currently using WinME and I haven't download any programs that would make this happen. I could access my other programs perfectly.

The reference to the "Motorola SM56 modem software" on the page Daizy referred you to was an example only. The error you're getting can occur if the WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder contains any damaged or incompatible .CPL files. Recommend following the instructions on that page to determine which .CPL file is causing the error.

I've seen this one before and it is most often corrected by following the steps in the following MS article:
Error Message When You Open a New Folder (Q259096)
Note: there's a little error in this article:
MS says:
"To resolve this issue delete all the values in the following registry keys:
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\StreamMRU
-and-
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams"
In StreamMRU it is indeed all values in the right pane, except for 'default - value not set', that need to be deleted.
In Streams, it is not the values in the right pane, but all subkeys hanging under the Streams key.
They will be automatically recreated by Windows.
As always, don't forget to back up your Registry beforehand: Start > Run > Scanregw > 'Yes'.
Good luck, Tony

Oh no! I went through safe mode and before searching for any .cpl, I checked to see if Control Panel would run. And it did. But back to regular mode, it still hasn't.
I haven't tried Kleinkramer's solution yet. But since I would have to delete all those Streams files, would anything else happen to my computer if deleting all those files still haven't resolve my problem?

Maybe do as the MSKB article says but not in safe mode, since the Control Panel works ok in safe mode.
Worth a try ?

Kleinkramer's suggestion is certainly worth trying. If it doesn't resolve the situation run the repair option on Internet Exporer 6.0 from within Safe Mode. If it completes and doesn't resolve run the resore previous configuration option on Internet Exporer 6.0 from within Safe Mode.
Nix: the reason Control Panel opened in Safe Mode is because it is a minimal boot i.e. nothing but explorer loaded up on boot.

Eek! I tried Kleinkramer's solution and Calpitor's solution, but it does have any effect at all. What is wrong?!

I've seen this problem caused by spyware or a virus. Download and run a scan with Ad-aware and see if it finds anything.

Also run a virus scan: http://housecall.antivirus.com/

ikariyatchi just a shot in the Dark here.... Did you dismiss Daizy's suggestion without trying it because you saw the word 'motorola'? If so go back and try it. If it isn't a problem with internet explorer then it is a damaged cpl file. good luck

Calpitor: Yes, I tried Daizy's solution but it didn't work.
Thanks so much, Kento! Things are going stable!
